What is Ape Lamai all about?

අපේ ළමයි (Ape Lamai), Our Kids, is a not-for-profit organisation for children with disabilities. Founded in 1999 by Mr. D. M. Thilakarathna when his son Vishva Krishan Thilakarathna was diagnosed with hydrocephalus (ජලකපාලතාවය), Ape Lamai provides schooling, vocational training and board for 60 children with disabilities. Ape Lamai aims to help its students develop into independent adults who contribute to society. The Ape Lamai organisation is based at an abandoned school close to Botale railway station that has been repurposed for the organisation. The organisation receives little government funding so it relies on the generosity of donors. Get involved today by volunteering, sponsoring a child or donating to keep Our Kids running.
